Creative Glass Lamination – Diversity Between the Layers

A world of possibilities lies before you

Go Back

Glass is much more than just a transparent material—it shapes spaces, creates atmosphere, and evokes emotions. Using creative lamination techniques, Glas Marte offers a virtually limitless range of design possibilities. A wide variety of materials can be securely and permanently embedded between two sheets of glass—adding more expression, depth, and impact to any space.

Why laminate?

The integration of fabric, paper, metal, natural materials, textiles, or electronic components opens up entirely new possibilities for interior design—from subtle details to bold, space-defining statements. At the same time, the laminated elements remain permanently protected from dust, moisture, UV radiation, and physical wear and tear.

How does it work?

Materials that provide both visual and functional properties are sandwiched between two or more layers of glass using laminating films. Depending on the requirements, PVB, EVA, or specialty films are used. This technology allows for combinations of a wide variety of glass types (e.g., float, tempered, heat-strengthened, ornamental, mirrored, or chrome-plated glass) and formats up to 1,800 × 5,600 mm or 700 kg—and even larger if required.

Typical inserts:

  • Architectural & metal mesh: e.g., aluminum or copper mesh for texture, depth, and light reflection
  • Electronics: such as heating wires or LED films for luminous or technical accents
  • Textiles & natural materials: e.g., lace, fabrics, leaves, wood veneer – for an emotional connection to the space
  • Custom motifs: Logos, prints, or multi-layered effects for unique design concepts

The selection of materials is guided by the desired effect—whether visual, atmospheric, or functional. Acoustic requirements or safety considerations can also be met through careful material selection.

“When materials in glass are allowed to do more than just let light pass through, a interplay of light, texture, and emotion emerges—made possible by deep specialization in lamination.”

FAQ

What types of materials can be used?

For the purposes of glass lamination, a large variety of materials can be used, such as cloth, wire, lace, paper, metals, natural materials, PET films, electronic components (i.e. LED, heating wires) and many others, depending on the desired effect.

What types of films are used?

PVB films are used for safety-related applications, while EVA films are used primarily for decorative or special effects.

Which types of glass can be laminated?

Almost all types of glass can be used, including float glass, tempered glass, heat-strengthened glass, patterned glass, mirrored glass, and chrome-plated glass.

What shapes and glass thicknesses are available?

Glass thicknesses ranging from 4 to 12 mm (up to 19 mm as an option) and total thicknesses of up to 80 mm are available. The maximum dimensions are 1,800 × 5,600 mm or 700 kg—larger sizes are also available upon request.

Where can laminated glass be used?

Applications range from doors, partitions, wall paneling, and furniture to facades, fall protection systems, showers, and art installations—both indoors and outdoors.

What are the advantages of laminated glass in terms of protection and durability?

The embedded materials are permanently protected against dirt, moisture, UV radiation, and mechanical damage. The glass surface is easy to maintain and durable.

Can laminating be combined with other functions?

Yes, upon request, we can provide combinations that include fire protection, privacy screening, soundproofing, or special lighting effects

How customizable is the design with laminated glass?

By freely choosing materials, colors, patterns, and layered designs, you can specifically influence the atmosphere of a room—from subtle to bold.
