GM RAILING® DOUBLE SMART

GM RAILING® DOUBLE SMART was developed to raise low parapets easily and safely. The system adds a transparent glass extension to existing masonry or concrete parapets, creating a secure balcony enclosure without requiring major alterations to the existing building structure.

The glass and U-channel form a prefabricated unit that is inserted into the prepared substructure. The compact profile reduces the amount of visible aluminium and creates a calm, clean all-glass appearance. At the same time, the system offers high stability, well-designed connection options for waterproofing layers, membranes and metal sheets, as well as easy integration into external façade cladding. The laminated safety glass used for GM RAILING® DOUBLE SMART is manufactured with PVB or SGP interlayers.

Safely raising existing parapets:

Many existing residential buildings feature solid masonry or concrete parapets approximately 600 mm high. Although these low parapets form a structural boundary, they may also invite people to sit on them, creating a significant safety risk. GM RAILING® DOUBLE SMART raises existing parapets with a transparent glass extension held in a compact U-channel. The existing parapet remains intact and is enhanced with a visually lightweight solution that provides effective fall protection.

Compact U-channel. Powerful performance:

The system combines the glass and profile into a prefabricated module. The U-channel and glass module interlock on both sides, providing a high level of stability. When subjected to loads, the forces are transferred into the supporting structure via both sides of the profile. At the same time, the appearance remains deliberately minimal: very little visible aluminium, a clean glass line and no unnecessary visual clutter on the façade.

Moisture protection and connections fully considered:

A clean connection to the waterproofing, façade and substructure is particularly important when raising existing parapets. The full-surface adhesive bond prevents water from penetrating the bonded area. Waterproofing layers, membranes and metal sheets can be integrated as required. Façade panels, HPL boards and other types of cladding can also be accommodated. With appropriate planning, the glass module can even be installed after the façade cladding has been fitted.

Installation as a prefabricated unit:

GM RAILING® DOUBLE SMART is designed for simple and safe installation. The glass and U-channel are prepared as a single unit and inserted into the existing substructure. This results in a clearly defined installation process and a high degree of execution reliability. The high level of prefabrication supports precise planning, efficient on-site installation and permanently reliable glass support.
